PRIVACY POLICY — COMPASS WORKSHOP

SCOPE

This policy describes how the current Compass Workshop application handles information when you read compass headings, calculate bearings, save direction references, and export records. It also describes local storage in the browser preview where applicable.

DATA ACCESS AND COLLECTION

Compass Workshop processes information locally on your device. The inspected application does not transmit your compass readings, coordinates, saved records, or preferences to the developer. It has no account registration or developer-operated cloud storage.

Device sensors: The Android app accesses rotation-vector sensors or, where needed, accelerometer and magnetic-field sensors to calculate headings and display sensor accuracy status. Sensor access operates on compass-related screens while the app is active and pauses when the app moves into the background. Raw sensor readings are processed for the live display; saving a direction stores the resulting heading and sensor status rather than a continuous raw sensor history.

Manually entered coordinates: You may enter latitude, longitude, and altitude to calculate true-north correction. The app saves that position, its calculated magnetic declination, and the time it was updated. The app does not request location permission or automatically obtain your GPS location. You may also enter origin and destination coordinates for bearing calculations. Saving a calculated reference initially includes those coordinates in its editable notes. Saving a measured true-north heading initially includes the manual position and correction-update time in its editable notes.

Saved directions: Records include a local identifier, name, heading, magnetic or true-north basis, source such as measured or calculated, capture time, notes, and sensor status. Names and notes may contain personal information if you choose to enter it.

Preferences: The app stores angular units and your magnetic or true-north selection locally. Some temporary screen inputs may also be retained through the operating system's screen-state restoration.

PURPOSES

The app uses sensor information to display and compare headings, show sensor conditions, and support calibration guidance. It uses coordinates to calculate geographic bearings and true-north correction. Saved records and preferences support direction history, named references, comparisons, and your selected display settings. Record information is also used to generate CSV exports when you choose to share it.

STORAGE AND RETENTION

On Android, saved records, preferences, and position-correction information are stored in the app's private preferences storage. They remain until deleted, overwritten, or removed through the device's app-data controls. There is no automatic expiration period implemented for saved records.

In the browser preview, saved records and preferences use browser local storage. The preview does not provide live device compass readings or calculate Android true-north correction. Local preview data remains until removed through the app where supported or through the browser's site-data controls.

The Android application enables operating-system backup. Depending on your device and backup settings, app data may be included in system backups or device transfers. Such copies are handled by your operating system or backup provider under its own settings and policies. The app does not operate a separate backup service.

SHARING AND THIRD-PARTY SOFTWARE

The app does not automatically share your records with the developer or other recipients. When you choose to share a direction or export a collection on Android, the app opens the system share sheet with CSV content. The app or destination you select may receive the exported information and handle it under its own policies. In the browser preview, export downloads a CSV file.

CSV exports include record names, headings, heading basis, source, capture times, notes, and sensor status. Coordinates contained in notes are therefore included in exports. Review notes before sharing.

The inspected source and dependency configuration contain no advertising, analytics, tracking, or remote crash-reporting SDKs. The app uses Android and Kotlin/Compose software components for its interface, sensors, local storage, and sharing. Although the Android manifest includes Internet permission, no app-initiated network transmission was identified in the inspected implementation.

Certain operation failures are written to local Android diagnostic logs or the browser console. No remote diagnostic-upload feature was identified.

SECURITY

The Android app uses private application storage provided by the operating system. No additional app-level encryption for stored preferences or exported CSV files was identified. Protection also depends on your device security, backup settings, and the destinations you choose for exports. No storage or security measure can guarantee complete protection.

The inspected app does not implement a remote data-transfer service, so it provides no app-specific encryption-in-transit mechanism to describe. Transfers performed by a selected sharing app or system backup provider depend on that service.

DELETION AND YOUR CONTROLS

You can edit saved names and notes, or open a saved direction and choose Delete direction to remove it from local saved directions and history.

The Settings option Remove position correction clears the active declination correction. In the current implementation, it does not erase the previously stored position or its update time. It also does not remove position information already included in saved notes. You can edit or delete those records separately.

To remove all locally stored app information, use Android's app-storage controls to clear the app's data. For the browser preview, clear the site's browser storage. Backup copies and exported files must be managed separately through the relevant provider, recipient, or file-storage controls; deleting an in-app record does not delete those copies.

For privacy or deletion questions, contact mateuszbednarski696@gmail.com. The developer has no implemented remote access to your locally stored records and cannot erase those records from your device through a server-side deletion request.

CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

A specific intended child age group has not been established in the supplied information. The inspected app has no accounts, advertising, or developer-side collection mechanism for children's information. Information entered into names, notes, or coordinate fields is handled locally as described above and may leave the device if exported or included in operating-system backups. Contact the privacy address with concerns involving a child's information.

POLICY CHANGES

This policy may be updated to reflect changes to the application or its data practices. Review the policy accompanying the version you use. Any future data-handling changes should be reflected in an updated policy.
